Wappu 2009 (...and the aftermath)

Yo the man is back. So I had an unusually long break from writing, mainly due to the trip to Snappertuna (which Joonas already covered brilliantly) and Wappu.
Wappu was fun, first we headed to Koff Park (more familiarly to Helsinkians known as Koffin puisto) , met some friends and had a blast. When it started to be too chilly we take cab and have some after partying at my house. Although this time anything super special didn't happen or we didn't take any pictures I think we had good times. But, but, but that's not the end of the story... let a time machine take us 48 hours ahead from that Thursday night... yes, we are still drinking. It's not like these drinking mayhems are new to me but as unplanned as this came and how few hours i slept over the weekend, this one was pretty rough. However, I'm not saying it wasn't fun. Especially on Day Two (that would be Friday) all the getting tanned at my backyard, throwing frisbee and puffing hookah in a park was loads of fun.
So that's our Wappu summarized, I'm not sure if this was even interesting but I felt like doing this as we didn't have a camera coverage with us this time.

Some other notes from past weeks :

  • Me and Joonas met Ville from Emperatron (a Helsinki-based group of mixtapers) in Koff Park and he seemed to be a nice fellow. They have some pretty decent mixtapes out too. Check 'em out.

  • Our electro project (meaning mine, Joonas' and Nikke's) is about to have a myspace site. Joonas and Nikke have already couple of ready songs, I have couple under construction and one that's only missing the guitar part. Be sure to check out Blak & Dekkers' songs when we get the site out.

  • You just have to join me and Joonas when MSTRKRFT hits Virqin Oil & Co. in Helsinki. They're not so hyped for nothing. Should one amazing party.

  • I really think Le Corpse Mince de Francoise is over-hyped and over appericiated. It's not like they're songs are not good but...JEEZ everybody are talking about them.
This week's playlist will consists of song we listened to during the Wappu Weekend (yeah, the stereo kept playing all weekend) . Some of the songs are not new, hyped or that special but which I found nice sounding this weekend (well it isn't the Pop Mainstream to 20 either but I hope you got the point) . So here are the top 5 songs from this weekend :

My Wappu 2009 Top 5 :

Army of Pharaohs - Dumb the Clip
: I heard this song the first time for some time ago in some snowboarding movie. The group of artists includes of my favorites Jedi Mind Tricks. This song has all the factors I respect from a rap song : the technique, the lyrics, the good beat and the attitude.

Tom Hodge - Aerodynamic : A classical version (a good one too) of the classic Daft Punk hit 'Aerodynamic' . Quite different than the last song on the playlist but you know what they say, little classical music every now and then keeps your mind bright. You can find other brilliant covers of well known song from the same complication album ' Ministry of Sound - Uncovered' .

Damn Seagulls - Human Torch
: This song really got me going when I was driving home from work on Thursday knowing there was gonna be a long weekend of partying ahead.

Amy MacDonald - This is the Life
: My friend Uffe introduced me to this folk sensation. Nice laid back vibes - nice music to heal a hangover.

Hector - Juodaan viinaa : If you're Finnish or understand Finnish you'll understand the relation between this song and Wappu and why it's good...well it's a good song nevertheless if you're drunk or not.

So this was the newest update. Coming up next time : me apologizing of my grammar mistakes, the most man car of all, and a lot of more senseless crap.

Hasta luego,
Sam
